Answer:
F5 certifications are valid for 2-years from the date they are originally achieved, and require to be renewed every 2-years. F5 does offer a 1-month "grace period" beyond certification expiration to account for unexpected issues renewing your exams. What is the "Grace Period" for certification renewal?
The grace period “borrows” validity from a future certification. If you renew your certification during the grace period, any new certification will be valid for 24-months minus the amount of grace period you took. As such, renewed certifications may appear to be valid for less than 2-years from your testing date, even if they are still valid for 2-years from your certification date.
Example:
Typically, under normal conditions, this is only 1-month meaning that if you take the full 30-day grace period to renew, your new certification is only valid for 23-months (24-months less the 1-month “borrowed” for the grace period).
For example, if your certification expires on January 1st, 2020, the grace period allows you to renew that certification through February 1st, 2020. If you pass the re-certification exam on February 1st, 2020, your new certification will still only be valid until January 1st, 2022.
Under our COVID-19 mitigation plan, the grace period was significantly extended allowing candidates much more time to renew their certifications, but also potentially significantly shortening the apparant validity of their renewed certification.
If your certification expired on January 1st, 2020, but you did not renew your exam until January 1st, 2021, your new certification would only be valid until January 1st, 2022. Your certification will be extended 24-months from the original expiration date, or 12-months from the date you renewed, as you "borrowed" 12-months during the grace period.
